OpenAI

OpenAI is an AI research and deployment company, founded in 2015 and based in San Francisco. It states its mission as ensuring that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity.

Its best-known product is ChatGPT, a general-purpose assistant for writing, research, analysis and image generation. Codex is OpenAI's coding agent for software tasks. Whisper is an open-source speech recognition model that transcribes speech in many languages and can translate it into English; its code is published under the MIT license. OpenAI.fm is a public demo of the company's text-to-speech API.

The products run on OpenAI's own model families. The GPT family covers text and code; the current flagship models in OpenAI's API documentation are GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. GPT-Image-2.5 is the current image generation model. Developers use the same models through the OpenAI API.
