Tried TRAE for about 3 weeks alongside Cursor. The SOLO project builder plus integrated terminal and browser are genuinely useful, though MCP setup and.rules agents still feel a bit early.

Trae ended up replacing my usual VS Code + Copilot setup for most of my side projects over the last 6 weeks, which I honestly didn’t expect. The big win for me is the agent driven workflow. Describing a feature, letting the Builder plan multi file changes, run commands in the integrated terminal, and then checking the result in the built in browser saves a lot of context switching. SOLO mode is impressive when it works, especially for greenfield React apps, but access is still limited and it feels a bit experimental at times. Compared to Cursor, Trae feels snappier on my M2 Mac and the UI is cleaner, plus the MCP marketplace and integrated browser are genuinely useful for API heavy projects. On the downside, the free tier rate limits kick in fast on larger refactors, and some VS Code extensions I rely on do not behave perfectly. For day to day web and backend work, it already earns its $10 per month, but it’s not completely frictionless yet.
